Staff Accountant - Housing Division

The Housing Division Accountant is responsible for all day to day accounting functions relating to a new division of the company that develops residential and commercial properties for lease and sale. This includes, but is not limited to, Accounts Payable processing, Lease set up, Accounts Receivable processing, Rent Roll maintenance, compiling various analyses and reports, preparation of related journal entries, as well as related monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and entries to facilitate timely internal and audited financial statements. . The Housing Division Accountant will report to the Controller. This is a fulltime position with benefits.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable processing including invoice review, purchase order reconciliation, proper approvals and entry of invoices into the accounting system. Also includes vendor set up and management of associated documents.
Lease set up - review new leases for accuracy, enter new rental order in the accounting system, set up new rental assets. Maintain lease files and information.
Accounts Receivable including periodic billing, set up and maintain customers, track customer deposits, assist in collection of rents.
Rent Roll maintenance - maintain an accurate list of rental units by property with specific information and current rent status.
Track deferred costs and calculate appropriate amortization entries for monthly financial statements.
Review development costs and operating costs for proper coding and accuracy.
Prepare various reports and analyses for management use and review.
Assist with quarterly review and annual audit.
Assist in developing new policies and procedures, or adapting existing policies and procedures, as the new company division expands and matures

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred with 3-5 years general accounting or 10
years of general accounting experience including preparation of journal entries and financial statements
Leasing, cost accounting and/or construction accounting experience preferred
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES
Superior knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Experience working in various accounting software packages
Ability to recognize discrepancies in written information and recorded data
Ability to meet multiple deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
Ability to communicate effectively with management, co-workers and outside contacts
Able to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision
Able to work in a fast paced environment and adapt to changing requirements and processes as the new division expands and matures

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
